Asia The Clinic Cat
09/89 - 08/08/05
Pictured below in February 2003

Regular visitors to our practice would have known Asia well - she was the snoozing tortie cat on the counter and, yes, she did sit there most of the time!

Sadly, Asia lost her battle with age-related thyroid and kidney problems at the age of nearly-16 years. She will be sadly missed by the remaining staff who knew and loved her, as well as by many of our clients who still can't believe she has gone. Rest in peace old girl...

Asia's story remains in place on our site below...

Hello. Let me introduce myself - my name is Asia and I am a very lucky tortoiseshell cat. You see, I had a very unfortunate start in life. I was born at the local shipping wharf, where some not-so-likable humans dump their cats that they don't love anymore - I guess my parents were amongst them.

Anyway, I remember that I was one of a litter of 4 kittens - we were very small, and it was very cold sleeping on the rocks at night. It is a long time ago now, but I remember a kind lady that used to come down and feed my family every day - if it wasn't for her, we would have all starved! Everyone liked her but we didn't trust humans very much...

Well, one day, my mum was away and we were lonely so we started to cry. The nice lady heard us and came looking in the rocks until she found us. We were dirty and salty but she didn't seem to care. She bundled us up (I was a bit worried by now - where was mum?!) and put us in a big metal thing on wheels. She took my two brothers to an old man who said he would really love to care for them, then she took me and my sister to her friends at McGregor Veterinary Clinic. We were both scared but the people were so kind that we got to love them.

picture of EuthWe were named Euth and Asia (which they tell me is some kind of veterinary joke - I'm not sure if I get it though...). I soon grew into a big healthy cat and my sister grew also, but not as much as me. She was always small. That's her pictured to the right... We were very close.

One unfortunate Saturday, Euth wasn't feeling very well. Rhonda and Dr McGregor did their best to help her but she died. I missed her for a while but there is always something interesting here to keep me busy!

I really enjoy living at the Vet Clinic. The best part is all the people that come in and pat me. I always make sure I'm sitting on the desk at consulting time so that I get the most amount of pats! Liz always complains that I put hair on the desk but I don't know what she's complaining about with all that paper and stuff that she puts on it! As far as I'm concerned, desks are for cats to sit on, and so are diaries, and fax machines, and cards, and...

Another good thing is when the lady that rescued us comes to visit. She calls me her "special girl". I always hear her car pull up and run out to meet her - she has yummy cat bikkies in her car and gives me LOTS. Liz, Rhonda and the guys always say she gives me too many but I don't think so :)

Below are some things about me - just thought you might be interested:

Asia Facts

  • Nicknames : Madam; "the boss"; "paperweight" (because I sit on things on the desk).
  • Favourite Food : Chicken
  • Favourite Dog Breed : Chihuahuas
  • Least Favourite Dog Breed : Rottweilers
  • Favourite Person : Judy the nice lady that rescued us
  • Loves : Meeting new people
  • Hates : Getting my teeth looked at; and worm tablets
  • Life's Highpoint : Any day that people visit
  • Life's Lowpoint : Getting attacked by a Rottweiler (Rhonda and another vet, Ralph, saved me - I broke my leg and had a plate inserted. The Rotty had a very sore, infected nose where I chewed on it so he didn't get off scott free!!)

Send me an e-mail if you like. It's not as good as a pat but they haven't invented cyber-pats yet!
